BUSY BUSY!

have been frantically getting work completed for various galleries and Christmas orders. Somewhere I need to write up in big letters that next year I must start working towards Christmas earlier!!! Yet again I have had to delay getting work to some new venues and cancel a couple of market sales because I have n't got enough work BUT I AM LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT !
I am gradually filling my head with lots of ideas for new blocks so looking forward to getting those on the go when peace reigns once more!
An interesting Etsy day too!
Firstly I find out I have somehow managed to restrict sales of my work on there to Australia only (problem fixed now!) and ...I have had my first sale ! Yipee!
and the best thing of all....
returning from the coast at Southwold today spotted fantastic skeins of greylag geese coming inland to roost as it started to get dark....a "jawdropper" moment for me !

Sunday, 21 November 2010

sorry for lack of posts just recently ! Have had to get head down and get on with work  for the Christmas rush (hopefully) at the galleries ! I'm now working on three for the Mandells gallery in Elm Hill ,Norwich as part of the East Anglian Group of Maritime Artists Christmas Show...then straight on to work for the Cork Brick Gallery in Bungay. It is the first time I have shown in both galleries so a little bit of a worry !!! Promise to post photos soon..

experimenting with presentation!

I've been having a bit of a play around with my mini drypoints....felt I needed to make them more unique and special ! I have been looking at varnishing them to bring out the depth in the watercolour and also trimming the print so that no border remains. I have heard of prints being waxed...need to research this!
I'm getting slightly obsessed with floating mounts and tried this too and I think Im getting there!!!

a new development!!! rediscovered my love of pen and wash...strange how ideas come together ...been thinking on mounting prints in sections...like"posh decoupage" as a fellow "norwich printfarite "called it! But started playing with idea of town scapes /house portraits and this appeared!!!! This will be a sample hopefully to go in the Southwold Gallery to advertise house/beach hut portraits for Christmas presents!

at last finished the new Kersey collagraph I seemed to have been working on for ever! Just as well as it has to be delivered to Crooked House gallery Lavenham for their Winter Warmers exhibition next week! Still got masses to do!
Suddenly dawned on me that I am building up quite a collection of hare prints that include a church and moon...!!!

a day of ups and downs today!

very frantic printing day today ! Have to deliver to crooked house gallery in Lavenham next week and Im so far behind with everything! Finished cutting a new kersey block yesterday afternoon, sealed it yesterday evening and printed it today...but a real case of more haste less speed! block was obviously tacky and stuck to paper under the press and I was left with torn prints!!! Woe is me...but eventually managed a decent image.
There was however a definite "up" when the postman arrived and I found the lovely feature on myself in Green Pebble magazine!
www.greenpebble.co.uk
Shame to hear that this is the last issue in this format but Im sure their new books will be lovely!

busy day as the wind blows!

been busy painting the Minsmere bittern ready to take to the Norwich Print Fair ! Thought it might be interesting to see the various stages of painting. This studio is the upstairs room rather than the print room outside! This is where I tend to paint ,frame ,make cards etc.It felt very cosy today as there was an absolute gale raging outside!!! One day I would like to have a big studio where everything is under one roof.....but I fear that wont happen until I win the LOTTERY!!!

mini drypoints for Norwich print fair and eventually Folksy!

here are some of the new miniprints 2" square ! I think I might use these as a trial on Folksy

         the Minsmere bittern
the footpath to Cromer
more print fair new prints ...not the real titles as they wind around the block!

norwich print fair

the Aldeburgh rook
a new print especially for the print fair
really pleased with his head ! Im always amazed at how the animals in my prints seem to have a character of their own even though they 're not drawn in any particular way !
am I turning into Beatrix Potter ? !!!

absolutely manic printing day today !
Suddenly dawned on me that I only have a few weeks before the Norwich Print Fair and want to show lots of new work...still have some new blocks to make! Progress hindered by young lab recovering from op who cant understand why she cant go roaring round the common and so has decided to be as mischievous as possible!!!

new print...the hare and hen

this a final sketch for a new block, unsure whether it will be a drypoint or collagraph ! It will be for the Hare and Hen gallery at Burnham Deepdale North Norfolk. A really interesting gallery cum workshop of the potter Philippa  Lee who has kindly agreed to stock my cards and prints. It has lots of interesting art and craft and some very good bird books!

spent the evening framing work ready to take to byard art gallery in Cambridge. Always seems to take ages...I never allow enough time ...and why is there always a black fleck inside the frame that never shows itself until the back is all taped up !!!

Tuesday, 13 July 2010

by the way have really loved making this blog...new experience for me...and have already found lots of inspirational printmaking/artist /craftsman fellow bloggers to follow ! !! A big thank you to those who have already got in touch, hope to hear from lots more !

just delivered some new cards to the Southwold Gallery, financially producing cards not really worth it but there is terrific satisfaction in seeing my work as a card all packaged in their cellophane envelopes! looking forward to making a start on the new drypoint idea ...just need to finish some work for a gallery and a commission...aiming to start next week ...exciting!

Saturday, 10 July 2010

am developing a new string to my bow! 2x2 " drypoints that I will produce without additional painting to be used as handmade cards and mini prints in series or themes, perhaps as boxed collections....mind is swimming...incredible how a germ of an idea can take hold...will post soon as there's something to show!

strange how themes you had years ago
suface again! I seem to be hooked on
making images using lots of small individual blocks....something I did about
6 years ago! This is a new print called "a day to remember"

Monday, 10 May 2010

have been away to the Cairngorms ,spending days in the total peace of ancient Caledonian forest and wildness of mountain lochs.Sadly spotted many killed mountain hares along the roadside to Lochindorb, such beautiful creatures ,quite different to the brown hare of my local stomping ground! Also paid a visit to the Black Isle and the dolphins of Chanonry point...best views yet. Came away with lots of ideas for new blocks...just need to find a gallery in Scotland to stock them!!!

better late than never! here are some of the finished images and an image of the wonderful Crooked House gallery at Lavenham...absolutely full of beautiful things I would love to own!!! www.crookedhousegallery.co.uk

a good morning in the studio with my usual companion! Session went well ... new blocks surprisingly easy to ink, normally they grab on to the ink and take forever to wipe but with the sun shining on to the ink it was beautifully soft! So different to frosty printmaking sessions when wiping the ink is like removing tar!!!Hoping they will dry in time for painting tomorrow. Took my time as standing tough on the back but while sitting with coffee and dog in the sun could nt help thinking...not a bad life!

at last getting on with new blocks!

finished drawing out, cutting and sealing new blocks for the country zoo exhibition at Crooked House Lavenham. The small blocks will all be put in same frame to make one large story print. The owl is a new departure from hares, bitterns and cormorants but the magical element of the barn owl goes really well with the old timbered buildings in Lavenham that are so full of character and stories waiting to be found out ! One last coat of button polish needed ready for printing tomorrow.

getting stuck in to technology jobs!

amazing what getting stuck on the sofa can force you to get on with!!!
Im at last getting around to putting an illustrated catalogue together which I will be able to send out to customers, galleries etc AND setting up the new artist printmaker website AND doing a blog....all at the same time! Im impressed with myself!

still stuck on the sofa!!!!

looks like Im going to be doing very little for a while ....not good as I have two mixed shows to deliver for at the end of this month and still several blocks to make and prints to make and paint agh!!! working on images for
COUNTRY ZOO at crooked house Lavenham and NORWICH PRINT FAIR(on tour) at Wmondham arts centre...have this idea to make multi block images of walks, journeys in a specific area....rather like the blocks I trialled at my joint show with Tony Osler at Southwold Gallery in February as in this image!

stuck on the sofa!

have at last got round to setting up a blog....have no choice but to be stuck on the sofa with a bad back...so it seemed a constructive use of time!
